Studio Programs offer access to creative learning opportunities for children, teens, and adults in the Las Cruces community. Classes are for people of all skill levels, and students have the chance to learn a new skill or enhance existing knowledge while guided by local, experienced, and qualified professional artists.
Fall Session 2 registration for all classes closes at 4pm on October 9, 2021.
**NOTE** There will be no classes held the week of Veteran's Day or Thanksgiving.

Friday Night Painting Parties (18+)
An evening of painting, socializing, and FUN! No art skills needed. All supplies will be provided. And they're FREE! Each will be held from 6-8pm with snacks and drinks. Sign up now as classes are filling up FAST!!

This class is designed for beginner students to learn and practice basic techniques for building functional ceramic forms. Begin by exploring hand-building techniques such as coil and slab building, then move on to creating forms such as bowls, cups, and mugs on the potter’s wheel. Learn about glazing techniques and bring home functional pottery.
This class is designed for students who are ready to expand on their basic ceramic skills and ideas by using hand building techniques to create portraiture. Starting with a quick overview of the materials and techniques from beginner ceramics, the class then moves on to more advanced instructor-led projects intended to help students expand on their skills. Students will work from mirrors and photos to help them create their portraits. Prerequisite: Beginner Ceramics or permission of the Studio Program Coordinator.

Introduction to Portraits
Students in this class will work with several mediums to learn the basics of capturing the human face. Students will learn how to draw and paint the face and use references such as mirrors and images. They will be introduced to different mediums of art including pencil, watercolor, and acrylic paints. Students will work with shapes, lines, and colors to create portraits on their paper and canvas.
Introduction to Landscapes
Students in this class will work with several mediums to learn the basics of landscapes. Students will learn how to draw and paint different parts of landscapes including but not limited to natural scenery like trees, flowers, mountains, rivers, skies, etc. They will be introduced to different mediums of art including pencil, watercolor, and acrylic paints. Students will work with shapes, lines, and colors to create scenery on their paper and canvas.
Introduction to Still Life
Students in this class will work with several mediums to learn the basics of still life. Students will learn how to draw and paint objects that sit in front of them including but not limited to spheres, cones, pyramids, flowers, fruits, etc. They will be introduced to different mediums of art including pencil, watercolor, and acrylic paints. Students will work with shapes, lines, and colors to replicate what they see to on their paper and canvas.
Kids / Teens Classes
Kids Clay (ages 6-10)
Students will get to have fun and get messy with clay in between their fingers. Students will learn about clay and ceramics while being led by the instructor to create ceramic artworks such as ice cream bowls, bird houses, animal faces and more. Each student gets to paint their work at the end and go home with multiple works of art.
Teen Ceramics (ages 13-18)
Students in this class will learn some basics of ceramics and then move on to learn the ancient art of wheel- throwing pottery under the direction of one of our art instructors. In this class, teens are introduced to the potter’s wheel to learn the tricky yet extremely fun and tactile skill of wheel throwing. Students will learn how to create bowls, plates, mugs and more, which will then be glazed and taken home at the end of class.
Drawing and Painting (ages 6-10 and 10-13)
Students will get creative and messy creating works of art using a variety of skills techniques and mediums. This class will allow students the freedom to explore and create while also develop drawing and painting skills. Learning about color, value, proportion, line, and process, students will leave the class with multiple finished works of art and a deeper knowledge of the arts.
Teen Acrylics (ages 13-18)
Acrylic paint is one of the most versatile mediums. This fast-drying medium allows for a lot of forgiveness while working with it, which makes it one of the more popular paint choices. In this class student will be using acrylic paints and learning about the properties and techniques of them. Students will learn techniques such as various application techniques, wet on wet, washes and layers, color mixing and more. Using reference photos and working from life, students will start with material studies and then create multiple finished paintings and leave with a greater confidence in working with oil paint.
Mixed Media (ages 10-13)
Students will get to create personalized pieces of art using a variety of techniques and materials. This hands-on class will allow students freedom to explore, blend color and texture and play with action art. Be prepared to get messy and have fun while learning a newfound appreciation for art. Fun projects will combine collage, acrylic painting, layering and found object to create masterpieces! Come ready to paint, draw, sketch, splatter, sculpt and more!
