This exhibit features images of mixed media artwork made by some of the child detainees previously held at the controversial Tornillo Detention Camp. Uncaged Art also investigates the history of similar encampments. The exhibit was created by the Museo Urbano in the History Department at the University of Texas at ElPaso by Dr. Yolanda Chávez. Please join us for this outdoor exhibition.
“Uncaged Art” provides us a look into the voices of the children through their visual representations of their homelands. Parks, churches, landscapes, and birds flying free dominate the art pieces. The art displays the resilience and hope of the youth in the midst of their fear and suffering.
