Creative Writing and the Fantasy Novel

Friday, October 9, 2020

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library presents “Creative Writing and the Fantasy Novel” with guest presenter Steven Cousler on Friday, October 9th @ 2:35 pm via Zoom. Mr. Cousler is a current instructor in writing at the NMSU Creative Writing Department. Participants will learn the basics of creative writing, such as the uses of character, point-of-view, and verb tenses to tell their story. Then, these basic principles will be combined with more specific ones to show participants how to create their own fantastical setting with world-building, how to write magic, developing a good villain, and more. Examples of both effective and ineffective uses of these tropes will be demonstrated. There will also be a question and answer session at the end of the presentation.
