[ARCHIVED] Parks & Recreation Department's Adaptive Programs Places Third at Southern New Mexico State Fair

Parks and Recreation display

The City’s Parks and Recreation Department’s Adaptive Programs recently participated in the Southern New Mexico State Fair as a competitive exhibit group and placed third.

Projects are entered with Las Cruces Public Schools and are publicly displayed during the fair in the Veteran’s Building, at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds, about 15 miles west of Las Cruces.

This year’s theme was, “The Eighties!” The booth was decked out in boom boxes and paid homage to one of the most popular video games during the 1980s, Pac Man. They definitely had the fever!

A theme is provided yearly to participating groups, then the brainstorming begins! There are three walls in the booth at the fair that are provided for the annual project.

Recreation Coordinator, Ms. Jacqueline Meraz, plans the projects to complete in our facility/in-house that will be utilized for the entry in the project booth. All participants in the City’s Adaptive Art and Crafts program are encouraged to be involved in the project.

All therapeutics agencies in the Las Cruces area are encouraged to visit the booth and show support.

This is such a great group project for Adaptive Programs, and they are no strangers to taking home the winning ribbons of recognition! In 2019, the Adaptive Programs entry placed second at the fair.

The Parks and Recreation Department’s Adaptive Programs, formerly known as the Therapeutics Program, has participated at the Southern New Mexico State Fair for more than 10 years. Their annual efforts and accomplishments are applauded.
